Mark was born in Saugus, Massachusetts but grew up in Bel Air, Maryland. He graduated from Jacksonville University, in 1983, and was commissioned an Ensign in the United States Navy. He was designated a Naval Flight Officer in 1984 an over the next twenty years would amass over 3,500 hours in P-3, F/A-18, T-45, and EA6-B aircraft as well as over 250 hours in Pioneer UAV as both a Mission Commander and Internal Pilot. His Sea Duty assignments included TACCO/ Mission Commander at VP-9, Operations Officer at COMPATWING One DET Misawa, Japan, Operations Officer and Pioneer Internal Pilot and Mission Commander at Fleet VC-6 DET, and Assistant Air Operations Officer aboard the USS Kitty Hawk. Shore assignments included teaching at the United States Naval Academy, Mission Commander at NRL Flight Support Detachment, and Executive Officer of Naval Strike Aircraft Test Squadron. His final tour on active duty was spent as the Officer-In-Charge of the Pioneer Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Squadron, VC-6 DET Patuxent River, MD. He is currently working for SAIC, of California, MD, as the Project Manager and Senior System Analyst for the Navy Unmanned Combat Air System (N-UCAS).
