John Corbin, Connected and Automated Vehicle Program Manager, US DOT FHWA
Kevin Dopart, Vehicle Safety & Automation, US DOT ITS-JPO
Technologies for Automated Driving Systems (ADS) should operate safely on roadways in compliance with traffic laws and are evolving rapidly. However, ADS operating independently without coordination with the operator of the roadway system – the Infrastructure Owner Operators (IOO) – and other ADS will forego potential safety and efficiency benefits of coordinated operation. Assuring interoperability across the multiple regions where ADS might travel will require agreements on standardized means of cooperation. This session will explore developing a framework to guide identification of these needs via stakeholder consensus leveraging graphical representations and multiple viewpoints available in the Architecture Reference for Cooperative and Intelligent Transportation (www.arc-it.org) and associated software toolsets.
- Develop a better understanding of the overall system architecture enhancements likely required to support beneficial integration of ADS into the transportation system.
- The session will provide an opportunity to provide feedback to guide further work in this area.
- Develop a better understanding of policy topics and types of technical standards likely to support interoperable integration of ADS into the transportation system.
Agenda: (90 min. session)
1:30 PM – 1:45 PM Introduction: Cooperating to define the ADS – Infrastructure Interface
