New advisory committee will work towards UAS integration

New Orleans, La. — Brian Wynne, president and CEO of the Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International (AUVSI), today issued the following statement regarding the announcement by FAA Administrator Michael Huerta at AUVSI’s XPONENTIAL 2016 on the creation of a broad-based advisory committee that will advise policymakers on unmanned aircraft integration and plans to ease regulations for students to fly unmanned aircraft.

“Today’s announcement by FAA Administrator Huerta is welcome news to those of us in the unmanned aircraft industry. The FAA’s creation of a long-lasting, broad-based advisory committee to provide advice on how best to integrate UAS into the national airspace is yet another example of government and industry collaboration AUVSI has been advocating, and we look forward to participating in the process.

“It is also encouraging that the FAA is planning to make the use of UAS in education easier for students and teachers to engage in research. UAS are an exciting way to promote STEM education and wider use among young people will no doubt inspire the next generation of UAS operators and aviators.”
